 Course Description

A one-semester course offering an overview of U.S. environmental policy alternatives and emphasizing the interrelationship of science, business and government in policy formation and implementation.  Special attention will also be given to international efforts to achieve consensus on sustainable growth policies that encompass economic realities, technological innovation within a sensible legal and regulatory framework.

The course will include a survey of key U.S. environmental laws, an analysis of present environmental policy directives and detailed information about specific environmental problems and solutions.  Case studies of cooperative efforts among businesses,  NGOs, and governmental agencies will be explored, including recycling programs, waste cleanups, alternative energy development and creative land use practices.

Environmental technologies will be included, particularly low-cost, feasible solutions which could be utilized in developing economies.
