Horses
in the Volga
The
Volga River is the longest river in Europe.
The Volga
River flows over 2,200 miles from its source in the Valdia Hills, northwest
of Moscow,
to where
it empties into the Caspian Sea.
Wheat is mostly grown along the river because of the fertile land.
Nine hydroelectric power stations along the Volga River.
The Volga carries two thirds of Russia's freight, 25% of it being timber.
LENIN
the former ruler of Russia and perhaps the most influential man of Russia
was raised along the Volga.
Pollution
of the Volga River
3,000 factories dump 10 billion cubic yards of contaminated waste into the river every year.
There are so many chemicals in the water that the ponds don't freeze any more.
Russia's
black caviar has been largely affected by toxic chemicals that eat away
the Sturgeon's flesh
(the
fish from which we get caviar).
The water
is so polluted that 60% of the sturgeon catch has been decreased.
