   Hydroelectric power is a major resource of the Missouri River.  For this purpose dams are built and the direction of the river flows is altered, which in turn is harmful to the river's environment.

   Fishing is another key element of the Missouri River.  Even though many species of fish are now threatened with extinction, the fishing aspect still serves an important purpose to the communities off the coasts of the Missouri.
