Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have strived towards protecting tropical forests against deterioration and repairing damage inflicted upon the forests, as a result of human activity and negligence. International NGOs have been assembled to promote the conservation and sustainable management of tropical forests and their resources.
Furthermore, environmental NGOs have also focused their efforts towards educating people about the importance of these forests and how endangered they have become. NGOs, such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), have made consumers more aware of forest depletion. Therefore, more consumers are demanding products that come from well-managed forests. The FSC believes that as long as the general public is concerned about the future of its forests, products coming from well-managed forests will have an advantage in the market place.
