Field Study:
Starbucks Coffee

Rainforest protection programs such as Conservation International and the Rainforest Alliance have done astounding work to provide the rainforests with a  chance for survival.  Many of these programs have introduced reporters first hand to deforestation sites in an attempt to spread knowledge pertaining to the subject matter.  Individual corporations such as Starbucks Coffee have joined these protection programs and have implemented environmental methods into their coffee bean production.
Yet even with all these steps towards helpful methods being taken, the problem continues in the sense that the extent to which the world’s population is aware of and is educated on the significance of the rainforest and the destruction that is taking place is very limited.  The survey given to Starbucks showed that very few people, including employees, had been even slightly aware of Starbucks collaboration to with C.I. to protect the rainforest.  It is therefore necessary that the global community works together on an international level to beat the growing problems.  One area of increased success is that of N.G.O’s  who have the ability to go out and spread knowledge on their own accord and on an worldwide scale.  Another is the U.N. The United Nations embodies 191 member states of the world and therefore serves as a potential success in regards to spreading the concern relating to issues such as rainforest preservation on a global scale so that all people’s may become aware!
