~Yanomani Tribe in Brazil~
• More than a thousand different groups of indigenous
people live in the rainforests, and it is possible
that there are tribes unknown to the rest
of the world
• There were an estimated ten million Indians living in
and around the Amazon five centuries ago,
whereas today, there are less than 200,000
• In Brazil alone, European colonists have destroyed more than 90 indigenous tribes since the 1900s
• For many of the people living in these areas, the forest
is the only resource they have. It gives them
food, shelter, and cultural ties.
