Some Overfishing in the United States

What is Overfishing?
Occurs when fish are caught faster then they can reproduce

Doesn’t just affect fishing population; also affects entire biotic community

Why Does Overfishing Happen?
Fisherman are trying to make more money

More effective technologies for fishing

Greater demand for fish

Foreign companies are overfishing

What is Shark Finning?
Cruel practice of cutting off a shark’s fins and throwing its dying carcass back in the water

Just for sport; 95-99% of shark is wasted

Shark killing is up 2,500% in just 7 years.
