Student CHIP offers four types of Plot Charts: Line, Bar, Pie, and Stacked. To begin we must first open a data set file. Here, we will use "Born9.dat" found in the Cen1990 folder. After opening the file, we must choose the variables we want to plot. We do this by going to "Command" then "Cross Tab," as shown below.

The screen below will appear where you can choose the variables you wish to plot. For this tutorial we will use "RaceLat" and "Educ."

From here you can now plot your chart. Just go to "Table" then "Plot." When you go into "Plot," you are now given the four choices of charts as shown below. Just highlight the plot you desire and click! For this tutorial we will use the "Bar" chart.

After clicking on the chart it will automatically appear on your screen like the chart shown below. From here, you can print the chart or copy the chart on to clipboard for use in other applications like Microsoft Word or Excel. Copying the chart only copies the numeric table behind the graphic chart--not the graphic chart itself, but if you copy this information into Excel, a chart can be created.
