  • Classroom observations and video taping
Ouch. It's hard to think about seeing yourself in front of a class, but it can be helpful and instructive too. I will perform the videotaping and review it with you if you wish.
  • Confidential advising regarding class management techniques, teaching strategies, communication techniques, assessment, etc.
If you have some questions or problems about teaching, research, or the use of technology that you would like to discuss confidentially, I would be happy to come to your office or meet you anywhere to talk. My goal is to reinforce the things you are doing well and to support you as you explore new ideas. Again, these consultations are completely confidential.
  • Support and review of your professional portfolio.
Each faculty member at Bryant University is encouraged to maintain a professional portfolio. I can help you structure and format your portfolio, as well as advising you about the artifacts you've chosen to include. I will also help review your portfolio before you submit it to a review committee.
  • Support and review of research for publication or grant application
Again, each faculty member at Bryant University is required to engage in research and professional development, such as applying for grants. If you have an article or report you are submitting for publication or have a grant proposal or report, I am happy to reivew it for you and offer suggestions.
  • Research and reference
If you have any questions about the tradeoffs between teaching and research, student life at Bryant, diversity issues, teaching with discussion and group exercises, or any other topic about teaching here at Bryant University, feel free to contact me.
  • Blackboard administration and support.
If you have any questions about how to use blackboard, you need to create a new course website, or you need to delete or recycle old courses, just send an email or call me, the new Blackboard administrator.
  • Support and advising for new software and hardware purchases
If you are thinking of getting a new technology, be it hardware such as a digital camera or PDA, or new software, I can help you determine what the industry standards are in that area, advise you on which companies are most reputable, help you find the best purchasing deals, and help determine which tool will best integrate with the existing software and hardware here at Bryant.
  • An IT liaison
If you have a question or request regarding software and hardware for your classroom but don't know who or how to contact IT about it, you can always call me first and I will help act as a liaison between you and the appropriate IT staff member(s).
  • Software training and documentation
If you are using a piece of software or hardware in your class and need to learn how it works or need to train your students how to use it, I can design custom training sessions or documentation for you or your students, including step-by-step details with accompanying screen shots for certain key processes.
  • Lesson plan design
When is the best time to distribute PowerPoint slides to my class? How will I keep my students on task in my class if they have laptops? What can I do to draw shy students into class discussions? How can I make sure that each person contributes significantly (if not equally) to group projects? I can help you design lessons and units that are best suited to the educational goals and objectives you've outlined for your course.
  • Educational research and reference
If you have any questions about topics related to educational theory or practice I have access to many resources and can either provide a concise white paper on any educational topic for your review or give you an annotated bibliography to explore. Also, if you have any questions about the benefits or limitations of technology in the classroom.
