Introduction

Welcome to my web site on the Erie Canal. My name is Steve Johnson and I am currently a senior at Bryant College. I have constructed this web site for a class that I am taking entitled The History of American Technology. The web site deals with what it took to build the Erie Canal. Specifically, this site deals with the revolutionary breakthroughs in engineering that occurred during the construction of the Canal.

Through my research I have come to realize how much of an influence the Erie Canal had, not only on New York, but also in the whole country. Once called the eighth wonder of the world, the canal opened up a way to transport raw materials and goods from the New York ports up to the Great Lakes region. The previous path was very dangerous and time consuming. I hope that you find this web site both informational and entertaining. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email me at sjohnson@bryant.edu.
