The K-car
'91 Dodge Spirit R/T

The K-car was Chrysler's bread and butter, and single handedly saved the company. K-based cars from Chrysler Corporation - every front wheel drive Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge car made from the 1980s through 1995 with the exception of the LH series (Intrepid/Concord/LHS/post-1992 New Yorker/Vision), L series (Omni/Horizon/Charger/TC3/O24), Cloud Cars, Neon, and imports.  (First-generation minivans also qualify). This list would be cleaner if we could end it at 1992, which is when Chrysler started to release new platforms; for many years, the K was the sole generator of new cars at Chrysler.

The above picture exemplifies the K-car, with classic K look, but keep in mind, the same frame was used on the Chrysler Minivans and the Dodge Daytona.  As a further note, the car above had a twin sister, the Plymouth Acclaim, offered as a turbo in the 80's, but later changed to a six.  To explain, the Spirit R/T was created to compete with the Chevrolet Lumina Z34 and Ford Taurus SHO.  The Plymouth did not have nearly the power of the Dodge.  This car showed the imminent death of the K; amplified by it's power, it's lack of refinment became sorely evident.  The car was just too old.  This model was the top performance model, along with the Daytona R/T Turbo, but that was not the original idea.  The cars started as small cheap and RELIABLE transportation.  Most had small 4-cylinder engines, some of the later cars has 6-cylinders or turbo fours, like the one above.  This car was the pinnicale of the K, and the end of what was probably the most versatile frame ever manufactured.
