The above picture exemplifies the K-car, with classic K look, but keep
in mind, the same frame was used on the Chrysler Minivans and the Dodge
Daytona. As a further note, the car above had a twin sister, the
Plymouth Acclaim, offered as a turbo in the 80's, but later changed to
a six. To explain, the Spirit R/T was created to compete with the
Chevrolet Lumina Z34 and Ford Taurus SHO. The Plymouth did not have
nearly the power of the Dodge. This car showed the imminent death
of the K; amplified by it's power, it's lack of refinment became sorely
evident. The car was just too old. This model was the top performance
model, along with the Daytona R/T Turbo, but that was not the original
idea. The cars started as small cheap and RELIABLE transportation.
Most had small 4-cylinder engines, some of the later cars has 6-cylinders
or turbo fours, like the one above. This car was the pinnicale of
the K, and the end of what was probably the most versatile frame ever manufactured.
