Who we are:

The China Explorers consist of the students enrolled in the "Environmental Studies of China" course (SCI-385: Special Topics in Science; 4 credits, including a lab credit) offered in the spring semester at Bryant College. These students are currently preparing for this excursion by attempting to learn Chinese culture, language and current issues. They are even attempting to use chopsticks as a dinner utensil.

The journey begins on May 23rd, 2000.

What do we hope to get out of this:

  • Open yourself to the world: International business for your future career.
  • Fulfill science course requirement: 4 credits including lab requirement.
  • Experience science in the "real world": Hands on studies on environment
  • Inside information: Special lectures by scientists, administrators, and business leaders.
  • Rediscover a nation: Unique experience in modern China and Oriental culture, arts, and history.
  • Adventure of a life time: Traveling in a foreign country with an expert.
  • Creativity, teamwork, friendship, and fun!

What are we going to do in China:

  • Travel to eastern China: Including 5 major cities and 6 provinces (See map below).
  • Visit US companies in China: Talk to US representatives, researchers, and business leaders.
  • Field trips and excursions: Archeological sites, historical locations, museums, and natural wonders.
  • Hands on experience on environmental studies: Environmental regulations and practice, sample collecting, etc.
  • Exchange programs with Chinese college students.
  • Experience real Chinese cuisine (I have to mention this!)

Acknowledgements:

The course and the study trip area true college-wide effort. It would not be so successful without the support of the college and departmental administration and the involvement of Bryant faculty and staff. I would like to thank the following professors who have spent their time as guest speakers during the on campus period:

These need to be updated with the names for the year 2000.
