Master of Science in Taxation (MST)

The Master of Science in Taxation (MST) is a comprehensive program designed for individuals who have a basic knowledge of tax codes and who seek advanced knowledge of federal and state tax laws and applications. MST applicants should possess a strong academic record and are encouraged, but not required, to have two years of professional experience. Students have the opportunity to acquire expertise in all tax areas. This comprehensive program includes core tax courses in individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts and estates. Students are also given the flexibility to choose electives in advanced areas of specialization to meet their career objectives.

MST Course Requirements

The program consists of three components:

 

I. Required Courses Group I (12 credits)


 TXMST 600  Individual Income Taxation
 TXMST 610  Corporations and Shareholders
 TXMST 615  Estate and Gift Taxation
 TXMST 625  Partnership Income Tax Problems

 

II. Required Courses Group II  (6 credits)
MST candidates select 2 of the 4 courses listed below to complete the required course work. Additional courses from Group II may be completed for the elective credit requirements.
 

 TXMST 605  Sales, Exchanges, and Other Disposition
 TXMST 620  Tax Practice and Procedure
 TXMST 630  Tax Research and Writing
 TXMST 640  Advanced Income Tax Problems of Corporations and Shareholders

 

III. Four Elective Courses  (12 credits)
MST candidates can choose four of the following elective courses:


 
 TXMST 672  Income Taxation of Trust and Estates
 TXMST 673  Pension and Profit Sharing
 TXMST 674  Corporate Reorganizations
 TXMST 675  Business Tax Planning
 TXMST 676  State Taxation
 TXMST 677  Estate Planning

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting

An MBA in accounting can give you the technical and managerial skills you will need to develop a successful career in either public or private accounting. The broad spectrum of courses not only prepares students for the CPA and CMA exams, it can also help you prepare for promotions in the controller's office, the treasurer's office, or the internal audit department.

Depending on the number of courses taken, you may qualify for examination leading to certification in the accounting field (i.e., Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor).

The MBA concentration in accounting consists of 15 credits of advanced graduate course work: 12 credits of accounting concentration course work, and three credits of advanced course work elected outside of accounting.
