June 3rd    Linqu to Qufu,

 Travel; to Nanjing by bus, en route Qufu, the hometown of Confucius, the root of Chinese culture and ancient philosophy.
Visit Qufu and learn efforts to 

preserve historical sites

June 6th     Wuxi*  Stay at the guesthouse of the Ecosystem Research Center on the Taihu
Morning: Travel from Nanjing to Wuxi by bus

Afternoon: Engage in scientific research dealing with environmental monitoring on lake water quality and aquatic life. Collect water and fish samples, visit water chemistry and microbiology labs at the center.

Evening: Guest seminar "Taihu Ecological Research" by a local scientist
June 7th     Wuxi* Morning: Visit Eastman Kodak manufacture facility, discussing water purification control and other environmental issues with Kodak personnel.
Afternoon: Fruit picking in Island of Taihu Lake

Evening: Research data processing
June 8th     Wuxi*   Morning: A half day tour to visit the Zhouzang Village (a well known historical site with traditional Chinese architecture and a unique fishing culture)
Afternoon: travel to Nanjing Airport and fly to Guilin
June 9th     Guilin  Stay at  the guesthouse of the Guilin Geological Institute. One day boat trip to inspect the Li River and limestone topography, assess environmental problems and solutions along the river (guided by geologists from the Guilin Geological Institute) Discussion on environmental protection at the Guilin Geological Institute
June 10th     Guilin  Morning: Visit limestone caves and a city tour
Afternoon: Fly to Beijing
June 11th      Beijing  Morning: Visit Tiananman Square
Afternoon: Sight see in the Forbidden City

Evening: Guest seminar: Sino-US relationship and US investment in China (by Dr. Wei Pan, Associate Professor at the Department of International Studies, Peking University)
June 12th     Beijing  Morning: Beijing Zoo
Afternoon: Discussion and preparation for a poster exhibit for World Trade Day (June 16)

June 13th     Beijing  Morning: Visit an ordinary Chinese family
Shopping and free time

Evening: Discussion on your research paper
June 14th     Beijing  Morning: Visit China Environmental Protection Foundation (hosted by the National People's Congress)
Afternoon and Evening: Farewell party at the Beihai Park (one of the emperor's palaces during the Chiang Dynasty)
June 15th    Travel Day  Return to the United States!
