An ongoing monitoring program of a mitigation wetland is being conducted by Ecology students at Bryant College in Smithfield, RI. The wetland is located on Rt. 7, about 1/2 mile north of Rt. 116.  The monitoring program began in 1997, just after construction of the wetland by the RI Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the upgrading of Rt. 7 and the development of the industrial/commercial site nearby.  Since this expansion of land use was expected to result in increased stormwater runoff, it was thought imperative to protect nearby wetlands.
