Solar Energy

Solar energy is used to cut back on the use of electricity.  This type of energy is the least polluting and most inexaustible of all energy sources.  Though solar energy has been around for millions of years, we have not been able to use it as effectively as other sources.  Most of the time, creating systems that are able to use solar energy can be very difficult.

The two most commonly used solar energy systems today are, solar heated homes and small stand-alone photovoltaic systems.  These two systems have been around for about a decade and have proven themselves to be very effective.  Below is a picture of a solar house in Maine.

There are several different applications of solar energy being tested today and hope to be put into use in the near future.  An example of these systems are large scale photovoltaic systems which would provide powerto the electric utility gridand solar thermal electric power systems to supply power to the utility grid.
